With veneer shaved as thin as tissue paper, one log will produce thousands of wood products. After the veneer is shaved, it is then dried and bonded together to create the different thicknesses of veneer.
-
Keep in mind that this product is 100% real wood and will be affected by temperature and humidity. If storing materials for a long amount of time, keep the veneer wrapped in shrink wrap, in a Zip-Lock bag or airtight container.
-
Yes! Since the wood is 100% natural, the card will biodegrade. No type of chemicals are used in the process of production and will not harm the environment during the decomposition process.

We suggest you score the veneer before folding. Some woods will fold better than others, and even after scoring, cracking may occur. The veneer will not crack in half, but the material used to bond the veneers together will keep the materials from ripping or cracking more. (You will need to score the veneer to fold regardless of the direction the wood grain is running.
-
This may seem obvious, but you can cut the veneer with almost anything. Scissors, craft knives, utility knives, and rotary cutters
-
Yes, we suggest a ball point pen. Some pens and markers with a wet ink tend to bleed in the grain of the wood.
-
Due to the natural characteristics of each wood specie, variation in color, figure, and other characteristics can occur. Wood veneer is a natural product and will always exhibit individual features and character marks. From tree-to-tree, log-to-log and card-to-card, the wood product will vary. No two cards or grains will be alike.

The majority of our products are printed using digital 4-color process (CMYK) laser printers. Our printers are finely tuned to print on the thicker veneers.
The printed ink is not 100% opaque.
Depending on what wood specie the item is printed on, the color or the ink may look slightly darker or a warmer tone due to the shade of the veneer. Please note that porous woods such as Ash, Oak, Sassafras and Walnut do not print as well due to the natural (open) grain of the wood. When printing on these woods, we do not recommend full ink coverage, fine detail(s) or small text.
-
Other then laser printing we also offer screen printing and foil printing. For both screen and foil printing, specific artwork requirements and fees are required.
-
Though we do not use these printing methods in-house, other methods of printing the veneer include: laser engraving/etching, screen printing, offset printing, letterpress, and thermographic printing.
Specifically treated veneer is available for ink-jet printing. -
Since we use CMYK printing, we can match Pantone colors as closely as possible. When choosing ink colors in your file, please use Pantone colors for uncoated paper stock.
-
No. Cards of Wood cannot print the color white. Where ‘white’ is seen in artwork, this is the absence of color and where the wood color and grain will show through.
(Any photos seen on the website with white ink are either screen or foil printed. Screen printing and foil printing will require additional fees.) -
Yes. Printing price may increase depending on what type of cards are being printed.

Any brand of laser printer with a manual or straight feed bypass tray.

Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has graphics that touch the edge(s) of the card. The artwork is printed on a larger sheet and then trimmed down to size. If you do not allow for a 1/8 of an inch bleed, any small mechanical variations will result with the artwork not running to the edge of the printed card. Bleeds ensure you get the results you need.
The example below shows how a business card document should be set up with bleed. This is the way you must set up your document if you intend to have graphics that extend all the way to the edges of the cut item.
This example above uses a business card, however the same principle and measurements apply to a document of any size. Please see the “templates” link on the bottom of the site for all document sizes and templates.
